Building The Heineken Fresher Football Story

Goal.com, a powerhouse, London-based media outlet covering European football, always finds itself in a pinch when the World Cup rolls around. In an effort to save time and web development funds, they reached out to Bell Media Group to collaborate on an upcoming brand-sponsored story. It needed to be beautiful, responsive, and colorful. Oh, and it needed to be published in just a few weeks in 8 languages. Here’s how we tackled the project.

Project Backstory, Details, and Results

Working under tight deadlines for big brands is always a bit of a challenge. Eager to create something special and ensure a seamless launch, Bell Media Group dove in headfirst to collaborate with our partners across the pond. We worked alongside Goal.com’s dedicated crew to develop team- and individual-specific deadlines and deliverables for the content, framework, design, and execution.

In this specific instance, BMG served largely as a technical partner. We not only adapted Goal.com’s creative assets for Shorthand (the technology platform that would host the story), we also advised Goal.com team on how to make specific functionalities work and custom-coded a new section type.

As the project neared completion, we were notified that it would need to also be functional in eight languages. Our team worked tirelessly over the weekend in synergy with Goal.com and successfully launched the story in 8 languages by the story deadline. 

In December of 2022, we were notified that the story had won the Digiday Marketing & Advertising Awards - Best Branded Content Site 2022.

We owe the success of this project largely to the creative support, collaboration, and teamwork with our partners at Goal.com. Although Bell Media Group is a small, boutique-style agency, we aimed to bring a level of sophistication, responsiveness, and care to every single one of our communications. Meetings often needed to be held across various time zones and work schedules; we ultimately integrated several Goal.com members into our team’s internal Slack channel to speed up progress and establish a direct line.
